After stepping into Back to the Future's time machine, the two finally appeared on stage and that's when things got rough. Franco and Hathaway's very tame opening dialogue was about the lamest of the past decade. Seriously, this is the best writing the Academy could come up with? There will not be a single line quoted from that opening bit as none are worthy of committing to print.
After the awkward opening segment, the show never found its footing. The decision to "go young" with hosts that might appeal to a younger demographic was a disaster. And not even a bit with Billy Crystal honoring Bob Hope could revive the lifeless ceremony. With no real surprise winners and featuring jokes that fell completely flat, the 83rd Academy Awards was a real snorefest.
